Your Questions Answered

What is the difference between fluoroscope and ultrasound guided injections?
Fluoroscope guided injections are essential for all spinal procedures, low dose X-ray images are used to accurately and safely administer treatments. This technique will show only hard tissues such as bones.

Ultrasound guided injections are only used for peripheral procedures, using ultrasonography to view images of soft tissues (such as muscles, tendons and ligaments) the doctor is able to guide the needle in real time into the desired area.

I have private medical Insurance; can I use this?
We work with a variety of insurance companies! Please be sure to inform us of the specific Insurance company you are with so we can ensure to check that your policy can be used!
Can I drive following a procedure?
Yes, patients are generally fine to drive following most procedures (except the radiofrequency denervation, shoulder hydrodistension, Nerve root blocks or cervical injections). If they are able to drive to the procedure they will be able to drive home. However, if a patient feels more comfortable to bring someone with them as back up, please give them this option.
Can I have a vaccination (covid, flu, hayfever etc) straight before/ after my steroid injection?
There is some advice around patients having steroid injections around the same time as a vaccination.
The steroid may impact on the immune system response to the vaccine and make the vaccines less effective during that time window.
We are advising patients to book their steroid injections either:
Two weeks before or Two weeks after having their jab.
I am going on holiday soon, Can I have an injection before to make my trip more comfortable?
Yes, but this depends on a few factors- age of patient, type of injection and location of injection. A patient that is having a peripheral injection and is fit and well, will need at least 3 days post injection to recover, otherwise it is always important to advise waiting 14 days before flying. If unsure, please refer to HCA.
I have an event at the weekend, can I take part in this?
No, we advise you to have a minimum of 10 days rest (dependent on injection you have), then we would advise you to increase your loads gradually. However, the Dr will advise you on a more specific plan post injection for you. It is likely that the doctor will hand you back to your physiotherapist for ongoing rehab to support a full recovery.
