Shoulder Dislocation

Shoulder dislocation is typically thought of as being one of those rugby players’ types of injury, but that’s not always the case. And interestingly, it depends on your age as to which structures you are more likely to damage if you are unlucky enough to have a shoulder dislocation. Youngsters are likely to damage the cartilage, middle age the tendons and the older generations are more likely to suffer from a fracture. It’s horrendously painful while the shoulder is out of the socket… and most people breathe a sigh of relief when it goes back in. However, that’s not the end of the story; in most cases the process of dislocating your shoulder will have injured some of the structures around the shoulder – and that will need a thorough treatment plan. Especially if you plan to go back to any form of impact sport.
