Referred Pain / Nerve Pain
Sometimes the neck can cause radiating pain into the shoulder and yes… it is as painful as it sounds! The poor nerves can get irritated and sometimes pinched as they le
ave the vertebra, and go off down your arm. This can cause you pain that radiates down the arms, as well as pins and needles, numbness, shooting pains, and eventually, muscle weakness.
They say nerve pain is the worst type of pain and we can see that in our patients’
faces in the waiting room. We are proud to say that nearly all of our patients get better without the need for any surgical intervention, in fact, we can count on one hand the number of patients that have needed that. With the right treatment we can settle the irritated nerves down quite nicely! This normally involves hands on techniques to gently open up the joints and holes the nerves live in. Releasing all the tight spasmed muscles around the area, doing gentle nerve gliding techniques to restore normal movement, gentle traction techniques
(with our hands rather than any medieval torture equipment!) and often, some tape. Then, it’s about working out what caused it in the first place, and guess what… posture normally has a huge part to play!
