The other way you can get Turf toe is following a sprain of the big toe joint or when playing a sport where you repeatedly push off the big toe such as sprinting on hard surfaces or scrummaging in rugby. There will be swelling and pain around the joint of the big toe and stiffness and pain when moving the joint.
